As a core tool for the Y6 Thesis projects, the initial research and project intentions were collated into design manifestos which were intended to underpin the project throughout the year. A range of projects are seen below presenting the detailed and critical research underpinning the proposals.
THOMAS CUNNINGHAM + TOBIAS MACKRILL // THE RETENTION CENTRE

The Retention Centre seeks to nurture arrivals by granting them the facilities to overcome barriers to vital, resourceful and existential equality, such that they can make an informed, voluntary decision to remain. The project aims to foster the bilateral exchange of skills, experiences and cultures to emphasise how symbiosis between native and foreign populations will lead to mutual prosperity. CLARE MCKAY // RECLAIMING LUXURY

The project speculates on the creation of a new ‘neighbourhood luxury’; taking the functions of the everyday and elevating them to become spatially and temporally luxurious. Drawing from the context, three forms of luxury are conceptualised – dining, bathing, and imagining – each interpreted in multiple forms of private, semi-private, and collective luxury.
